Hi Roger, thanks for going over topics like these. I agree they are just as important to learn as fishing techniques. Have you discussed post spawn behavior? I would be very interested to hear your take on the transition from spawn to summer patterns. Thanks in advance,
Hi Roger nice video man once more! I got a question for you, yesterday i went fishing this lake with clear water, some bass on the shore edge holding spots firmly and pointing to the the lake with their heads, tryed drop shot senkos, cranks, spinnerbaits.. no luck at all, they were just holding them spots hard.. the only fish i caught were on a martin little spinner, also i noticed they were like kissing each other, like holding mouth to mouth and ignoring any lure basically.. any tip??
@MrJoeCall Yes tubes are very good in the spring. Braided line is also very good in the spring. If the water is on the clear side try using floro line as a leader.
Roger
i hear all this great talk about tubes in the spring right into heavy cover near the shore. and i also heard that u have a harder time catching bass with braided line in the spring. is that true?
Could you provide insight on this situation? For two mornings in a row I fished good cover, shallow water at first light, points, docks, logs, and caught absolutely nothing not even a bite. This morning I did the same and decided to take a break for breakfast. I saw a ton of fish hitting bugs or something on the water (8am) so I zoomed out there and got several bites and hauled in a 3lbs bass (real nice for this lake). Why were the fish in 10-15 feet of water away from shore in the bright sun?
@Keeeeeeeeb I would fish a senko or a jig. I would fish any shallow logs on the north shore. I like a 3/8 oz jig with a craw worm trailer in black and blue.
fish behind the logs.
Roger
I am fishing in a small lake out in illinois for a tourney. I understand coming off a cold winter, many bass won’t be feeding to early is that right? The lake has alot of shallow waters with alot of logs in the shallow area’s which should be good fishing. We should be getting about 70 degrees the next few days. My question is should I jig, use crankbaits, or jerkbait? If so what kind of jig, crank or jerk? Thanks
@drummer5o
I will! bass love strong current but they do not hang out in it for long! look for current seams at the edge of strong cuttent. then look for water that is 10 to 20 feet of water and start wacking the smallies!
Roger
@IIIIJumpMan Docks in bays on the north shore are VERY good in the spring. But try fishing the hole dock to find the depth they are holding in. Then target that depth on other sheltered docks and evem main lake docks.
Best lures in the spring is tube jigs, senkos jigs and spinner baits. But skipping tubesor senko under the docks is best most of the time.

@JonIsRandom I use all kinds of senko type lures, INCLUDING SENKOs.I have my best luck with the standard senko. And the 3″ is my most productive size. IF YOU HAVE NEVER TRYED a 3″ senko PLEASE try some you will be very glad!!!!
PLEASE TRY THEM, you will thank me! Fishing the same way every one fishes can be less productive lots of times. Think out side the box Like fishing very shallow or deeper than every one does!!!!
Real gems if you try this!
Roger
Another great video. You should definetly do many more. Here is a lesson I learned recently while fishing a new lake. We had a good tube bite and drop shot bite during prefish, but on tournament day it had been raining in the night, cleared and then became overcast and windy. The changing weather shutdown the finesse tactics, but strangely enough the spinnerbait bite picked up right next to the bank. had we anticipated this pattern w ewould have done better in the tournament.
What are your thoughts on using Fireline or braid in clear water? I’ve been using that set-up with a flourocarbon leader, and wonder what your ideas are on that subject. Thanks.

@IIIIJumpMan yes and slow sinking baits such as senko’s to catch suspended bass near the surface just under the dock and a jig or dropshot for the pilings to see if fish are holding near the piling and the bottom

@Northwestrebel I do that all the time when fishing jigs or bulky worms in thick cover! Great job on finding a great way to fish!

Any thoughts on imitation senkos- like the bass pro Stik-O? Also, what about the senkos with tails/twisty tails?
