how do you fish the fish traps(hair raiser)? Do you just reel them in and give it a jerk? And should you reel the rat-l-traps in slow or fast?

It wasn’t the halibut we were scared of, but the treble hooks on the rattle traps. We weren’t trying to keep any fish so we didn’t bring a net or gaff. The halibut are hard to get ahold of since you can’t grab them by the mouth. We would just grab the treble hooks with the pliers and try to shake them loose.

Why you guys scared of halibuts.. they’re harmless, and better eating then those strippers…

Its nice seeing some Norther California guys beating up the fish like you guys do in the videos. i am from Sacramento and i make my way out that way all the time. I am not looking to get your fishing spots exactly but where roughly are you at and what kind of lures/equipment are you using? I think if you made this into more of a fishing show it would help us viewers out alot. Thanks for a good fishin “show”

Quantum rods (7′ to 7’6″) and Quantum Energy and Cabo reels. 14lb mono for the fish trap swimbaits and hair jigs. 30lb braid for the rattle traps. We are fishing the Marin Islands, the flats near San Quenton Prison, and a couple spots near China Camp. (Lower part of San Pablo Bay)

The Calicos and Sanbass live a little further south, around Orange County and San Diego. In the San Francisco Bay we have; Stripers, Halibut, Sturgeon, Salmon, Leopard Shark, Stingray, Perch, and a few Rockfish and Lingcod.
